None of them were deserving and I can only think that MGM did a massive campaign for all three. I kept waiting for A Moment from each of them but it never came. Joan Greenwoodwell, she was more memorable and considering she was the only lady who'd been nominated for a Golden Globe, I'm surprised she was snubbed. There were much more deserving performances that year:
Maggie Smith -
The V.I.P's
Cicely Courtneidge -
The L-Shaped Room
Claire Bloom -
The Haunting
Mona Washbourne -
Billy Liar

Agreed, Prism. I'd have given it to Dame Edith, but Redman was also very deserving.

As it tends to be the case. All the nominees from the same film cancelled each other out.
Its that man again!!

Diane Cilento's nom was quite laughable . She has minimal screen time , plays a role everyone else could have done and isn't even particularly memorable at it , to be frank .
Edith Evans was priceless as always , so was Joyce Redman ( the dinner scene is a supreme highlight ) .
It's ridiculous that they didn't nominate Susannah York , this was her movie as much as Albert's . She was the quintessential Fielding heroine .
Not nominating David Warner for his portrayal of Blifil was another injustice .

It's ridiculous that they nominated Diane Cilento, especially over Joan Greenwood who was the best female in the film IMO.
Diane Cilento was quite bad actually.
"Flash, Flash, I love you, but we only have fourteen hours to save the Earth!"

and no Susannah York who was more deserving, I think, than at least two of those from Tom Jones nominated.
