The show would've been in color. Do you think it would've helped or hurt the show? Some shows benifited from color- "Gilligan's Island", for example. On the other hand, the color episodes of the Andy Griffith Show just aren't as revered as the black & white ones.

I think it just aesthetically looks right. When I was of the age of watching monsters, I hadn't really seen any 20s 30s horror films. So I didn't get the"spoof".

Color would have been all wrong. Since the series was a definite spoof of all the old B&W/noir monster movies of the 20s and 30s the series had to be B&W. In "Munster Go Home" the actors were blue/green but on the series I wonder if they just used white powder to make themselves look pale. Green facepaint would have been a bit pointless.
I think Andy Griffith would have survived color if Don Knotts had stayed on but since the color episodes started at the same time he left any episode of TAGS in color is best avoided.

Yeah, the Munsters in color would've been too much to take. I loved seeing the movie in color when I was a kid. But years later I caught it on TV and realized how cartoonish and fake their obvious make-up looked.
Black and white set a spooky tone and perfectly captured the essence of the characters. The show was more like the B&W horror movies of the forties.
Remember when Eddie's teacher and principal paid a call on the Munsters?
The terrified teacher saw Lily andwhispered, "She's green!" and the principal replied, "Malnutrition".
Some things are better left to the imagination.

Yeah, Grandpa just looked weird with blue skin. If memory serves, even Lily was blue.

It's a novelty to see them in colour but it don't last long. The garish makeup becomes too much.

Watch the 1966 movie and there's your answer.

Well the color episodes of TAGS aren't held fondly because Barney (the main draw) was gone and the characters and stories became boring and depressing. Also, Andy regretted renewing his contract and his bitterness showed through on his character for the rest of the series.
I think the Munsters would have worked well in color and would even give a spookier feel.

I agree. Black and white was perfect for The Munsters. Very gothic tone indeed. The only thing that would have been cool in color is to actually see Herman and Lily's green complexion.

Hurt. Monsters looked gloriously Gothic and black-and-white. The pilot I believe was in color and it didn't look that good in my eyes
