<p dir="auto">Read the trivia section on the main page: The two films were both made by the same company, and when he heard about fail-Safe Stanley Kubrick insisted that Strangelove be issued first so that it didn't look like he was copying FS. As a result a lot of people thought FS was copying DrS!<br />
Even though I wasn't alive in 1964, I happened to see Srangelove first. I didn't see this one till years later but I still found it is actually hard to watch without creasing up a few times. Especially the president/premier phone calls! 8=0<br />
Both are great films. I think the thing to do is, while watching one. try and forget the other one.</p>

<p dir="auto">It was a concerted effort on the part of the film industry to influence the presidential election.  Goldwater was portrayed as a hot head who would launch the bomb.</p>
