I finally got the opportunity to see this film again after about 30 years. I remember watching this flick on TV's Creature Features and it scared the crap out of me. The sequence where the beatnik drinks the flesh eaters, and the Professor is holding the microphone to the suffering man's face as he screams well, it's quite horrifying. For some reason that scene has stuck with me for years.
Well, I finally got a chance to revisit the movie on DVD tonight. It doesn't really hold the test of time, but I have to say some of the gore sequences are pretty shocking for an old black and white film. No wonder the movie scared me. It's interesting to see how many people writing on this forum thread saw this flick when they were around ten - and were scared silly. There's something very unsettling about a creature who's inside of you eating your guts out. People have often compared that sequence to ALIENS. I would also say that the opening sequence where the swimmer gets eaten by the creatures while in the ocean also kind of reminded me a little of JAWS.
Anyway - glad this flick is finally out on dvd.

The sequence with Omar being eaten from the inside out was absolutely brutal and quite unsettling, too.
You've seen Guy Standeven in something because the man was in everything.
