I think the lake was in LA County somewhere. In fact I think that park may be either in Pasadena or near Hollywood itself.

I wish the lake and the cabins etc were real as to me the atmosphere of the film makes me want to be there.

Some of the exteriors shots were filmed around the San Francisco area but most of the outdoor scenes, including the lake, were filmed on the studios' backlot in L.A.
