there seems to always be this desire for something to be a trilogy
all the films have no connection; Leone didn't even originally want Eastwood in teh second
they ALL have names and they are different, just the same actor, Eastwood

Any film with the same actor is a sequel.
The Green Mile for example is a sequel to Forrest Gump.
Castaway continues the story.
