My parents watched these a lot when I was a kid so when I see them that's what it reminds me of and I enjoyed them more then then I do now.

Much enjoy the early ones. From comments it seems tastes for comedy are of all sorts. Love/hate. Then again people's moods change over time. Edwards as well as Sellers had fun well in hand. Can't think of any group efforts like this today. Maybe Austin Powers series gets close to the form. There's the Wagner, Niven father son routine done in Powers. Even a touch of Bondisms here or there in Panther series for the fans.
Watching The Curse of the Pink Panther now which gets fierce no nos. Edwards throws in some bits that would be more contemporary for the audience back then like the drunk playboy routine at beginning. Then a sort of neo-Mafia godfather setting outdoors around a big long table.
Arthur, and Godfather mined that same concept/look later years.
Curse has a few built in 'goofs' for sport. Like one where eyeglass lens falls out. Plops into guy's hand. Then as he exits the visit both lenses are back.
Niven says something about "as soon as he gets his glasses fixed". Cracked me up since clearly light was reflecting off both lenses in the sunlight. You know they could have either corrected for that, or was a side joke to see who was paying attention visually not just verbally.
Still, enjoy humor where you can find it. Not enough in this hard world.

I don't hate The Pink Panther, but it is clearly a vehicle for David Niven, Clouseau is just a bumbling backdrop for the plot. A Shot In The Dark is the best of the Clouseau movies because it is the one where he is believable, a klutz who is lucky, and inspired. After this one, the rest are just vehicles for pratfall comedy, with little regard for plot or character. Keystone Kops in France.

All the ones with Sellers ranged from good to brilliant. I honesty do not understand why everyone hates the first one, I thought it was just as hilarious as the other ones ( in a different manner).

The first half of the first movie is excruciating to watch, particularly when Sellers is not on screen. David Niven always bored me to tears. The second movie was much, much better.

I used to, but don't anymore. The accident prone idiot has been done so many times since and we have been subjected to funniest home videos so much that it's all predictible and not funny any more, even though the Pink Panther movies kind of reignited the genre. Peter Sellers was the typical flawed genius too.

This one is, yes. The first PP has v. little Clouseau, it's merely an early 60's comedy about the upper classes in Switzerland- hence all the shots of ski resorts, etc, (in this film, the pink panther is a stolen diamond). This is the second, made in the same year as Sellers made Dr. Strangelove, (the peak of his career). The third is watchable, made about 12 years after A Shot in the Dark- but dated for its time, and clearly well after the peak of Seller's career. By the time of the fourth, Sellers is plainly ill, even when disguised ( he had had heart attacks ever since being married to Britt Ekland, and also he wasn't the most emotionally stable person anyway by all accounts), and the plots are hackneyed and characters even more so. They tried making a Pink Panther after Seller's death, but it was a catastrophic piece of beep apparently.
