As a gag, Bryan Forbes and Peter Sellers came up with
Turk Thrust
for the name of a fictional pop star to be used in the credits.
It soon became an in-joke and Blake Edwards reused it twenty years later to credit Roger Moore as
Turk Thrust II
for his surprise cameo appearance in
Curse of the Pink Panther
(1983).
It was also a nod to Bryan Forbes, Moore's good friend whom he had served with in the British Army of Occupation in Germany in 1947. Moore was also best man at Forbes' wedding.
