<p dir="auto">OK, I've just picked up the DVD box set as a birthday present for a friend, I'm watching it through to check it plays all right, and to relive my childhood. It's an enjoyable enough series, but there's a bit of a problem with the premise. Actually it's sort of two problems in one:</p>
<ol>
<li>How come the Mysterons lose their control over Captain Scarlet when he falls from the top of the tower at the end of episode 1? They'd already killed him once and replaced him with a duplicate. I know some sort of explanation was given in the audio version, but I'm not convinced - not when you factor in point two . . .</li>
<li>What about other Mysteron agents? Before the development of the Mysteron Gun, whenever an agent is apprehended and "killed", they act like that's it and they have nothing to worry about.<br />
And for the record, Captain Scarlet's "sixth sense" of Mysteron detection seems to be mighty selective. It only seems to work about twice in the twenty episodes I've seen.</li>
