Yep. The script was written by legendary SF author Theodore Sturgeon, and Emily Banks (Yeoman Barrows) is definitely one of the top ten Trek babes.

Yep, That is definitely 1 of my favorite episodes of the show.

Yeah, I love this one, especially the overly long fight between Kirk and Finnegan at the end.

In the original run, Shore Leave was the Christmas week episode, which seemed quite appropriate.

Here's a few IMDb trivia items (relevant to this thread) for the episode
The original script featured Yeoman Rand as part of the landing party, but as the character was written out of the series, she was changed to Yeoman Tonia Barrows. Also, in Sturgeon's original script, the Yeoman had a share of close scenes with Kirk. In the rewrites, Gene L. Coon and Gene Roddenberry changed these to feature Doctor McCoy instead and introduced Kirk's old Academy flame Ruth to the story.
Although Kirk appears to address the "Angela" character as "Teller" early in the episode, she is played by Barbara Baldavin, who played Angela "Martine" in Star Trek: Balance of Terror (1966) (her fianc, Robert Tomlinson, died in the episode). The script name for her character was "Mary Teller" and was changed to Angela Martine on the set when somebody noticed that she had already appeared as a named character. In the closing credits, she is identified as "Angela".
When I was a kid, the local TV station would play

every Halloween. This might seem strange when you consider other, more horror themed episodes (like
Catspaw
) were available and yet it always felt strangely appropriate.

I love it when Kirk gets to kick Finnigan's aster-bar. Wouldn't it be great if you could get that abusive bully, boss, etc from your past and kick his behind?

I like this episode. Yes it's very weird, with the Alice in wonderland characters, but I love the beauty in it. The beauty of the planet. The dress Tonia tries on. I love her dress. This episode seems over looked.
It's an episode about making fantasies come true in order to alleviate some kind of diagnosed pain on the part of the person fantasizing.

Interesting about Barrows was how out-of-breath she was after running to where Sulu was shooting his antique pistol. I thought the actress (Emily Banks) might actually have been having a problem there.
The amazing thing was that she didn't fall down at least once like most women in these old television shows used to do.
At any rate, Emily Banks had that sexy girl-next door thing going on at maximum photon-torpedo levels.

Oh Yes! Shore Leave is one of my favorites! Later in the 70's West World came out followed by another movie of the same ilk. Those movies always reminded me of Shore Leave.

McCoy wasn't repaired. He was dead too long. He was simply replaced with one of the planet's androids, and for the rest of the series, that's McCoy 2.0.

At least to start with, anyway. Eventually Kirk "had to" beat him, but if it had happened too soon, it wouldn't have been as enjoyable.
Of course, Finnegan was never a real person, and certainly not THE real person, who would also have been much older, as was Kirk.

Well, but the planet made Finnegan be strong enough to beat Kirk most of the time, that was the point.

The exterior scenes were shot in Vasquez Rocks Natural Park and Africa USA.
A trivia note, Perry Lopez who played Rodriguez in this episode also played Lt. Escobar in the movie Chinatown.
When I was a kid I use to get so mad at Finnegan, I hated the way he treated Kirk. Now I get upset with Kirk the way Finnegan punks him out. You can't kick his ass, but you can whoop on Khan and a Gorn.

Maybe they had a gadget similar to the one in the TZ episode Valley of the Shadow which can restore any object to a prior state.

Common sense suggests that, like a holodeck, the "amusement park" would have safeguards that prevent participants from being injured or killed.
