The other night I saw an old Kay Francis movie on TCM called "Confession." It was about a former actress who marries and retires from the stage. While her husband is off to war, she gets drunk and has a regrettable one night stand. Anyway, it made me wonder if the screenplay for "Madame X" was inspired by this old 1930s film. Any of you experts know what I'm talking about?

More like Confession was inspired by Madame X. Madame X has been around as a play or movie since the early 1900's. Even by the 30's, Madame X was an old warhorse of story.
