It stands to reason that people of colors other than Black, Brown, etc. also qualify as African-American when they come to America and become citizens!

Simon Oakland often played bully type roles. One exception was Psycho where he is the psychiatrist at the end explaining the Anthony Perkins character to the sheriff.
In real life Oakland was an accomplished violinist. He was of Russian Jewish origin, not Polish. I always think the "heavy roles" are more interesting to play. Don't get too hung up on the "how come the bully has a Polish name?" I think the stereotype of Polish-Americans as stupid or whatever is long gone.
