2 things missing from today's motion picturescinematographers and composers..
storraro,young,francis,daschenel,hall,etc as cinematograhpers
goldsmith,rota,barry,morricine as composers
there ARE some composers, like alexander desplat and thomas newman still doing good stuff, but computers have moved lighting from art to technolgy..a shame
off topic,i didnt realize that candy bergen was only 19 during production..wow! a pretty sophisticated performance for such a young woman

Jack Jones sings the title song, "And We Were Lovers" is so beautiful! I play it all of the time.

The Sand Pebbles is a magnificent film made even more electric by the addition of this brilliant score.

My favorite film composer by far. His score to "The Sand Pebbles" is outstanding in every way. I feel it is among his very best scores, certainly among his top 5. It is epic and intimate, thrilling and tragic and it is perfectly spotted in the film. It is never intrusive and never unwelcome. A masterpiece in every way possible.
