DamnedI see there's a remake of the brilliant thriller planned, possibly directed by Jonathan Mostow.
The biggest nightmare would be that they cast someone like Ashton Kutcher to play Rock Hudson's role. Brrrr.

Why don't they remake failed movies, like "Plan 9 from outer space"
That's what they're doing right now. Despite of it's reputation of worst movie of all time, it has that certain Ed Wood flair. And that can't be remade ever.

By the way, to the guy who mentioned The Omega Man being remade, didn't you know that Omega Man itself is a remake of The Last Man on Earth? Although I woudn't say that the movies after TLMOE are remakes, they're more like new adaptations of the same book because they aren't based on the previous movies themselves but on their source material.
Anyway, on topic, the novel on which Seconds is based has the potencial of being adapted to fit the present very well, as long as it's written and directed with care and taste, but I doubt it would be. This is a classic sort of thriller that has a message and appeals to the intelligent side of the audience and to top all that, you can best understand it only if you're middle-aged because that's what the movie is actually about. And we know very well that movies nowadays are only about marketing and profits and we also know that the best audience to market movies to are teenagers and people in their early twenties, which, first of all wouldn't understand the message so it probably would be thrown aside, and secondly, they'd much rather see a lot of blood and gore and nudity.
To sum my opinion up - if they do remake Seconds, it'll probably be bastardised into a shallow sci-fi thriller with lots of murders and long chase scenes, instead of being an intelligent thought-provoking psychological thriller.
I'm here, Mr. Man, I can not tell no lie and I'll be right here 'till the day I die

Hollywood is lead by braindead people. The only part of their brain that somewhat works is the bean-counting center.
Why don't they remake failed movies, like "Plan 9 from outer space" (which, BTW, was an interesting movie overall). But no, they go and remake "Andromeda strain" or "The Omega man" and utterly butcher them.
As for Ashton Kutcher, I think he should keep to "Dude, where's my car?"-type of movies. Hey, we need the mindless comedy, too! Have you seen Ashton in "The guardian"? That was so unintentionally hilarious.

Though I wouldn't mind a remake of this film if its done intelligently, it seems that most recent remakes tend not to be loyal to the style and sentiment of their predecessors and usually pander more to pleasing the mundane crowd. Ashton Kutchner in Rock Hudson's role wouldn't surprise me at all. Hell, they got Keeanau Reeves to play the role of Klaatu in the Day the Earth Stood Still remake.
The first time we done knocked on the do, the second time we gon kick the son of a bitch in

Considering how poorly remakes are performing, why would they do it? They already remade the very excellent "Manchurian Candidate" for no good reason (although I any excuse to see Liev Schreiber and Denzel Washington are good ones).
The Godfather
will be remade and then arma-f ucking-geddon will happen. One can tell that when good movies are being remade the end is nigh.

In line with some other post, I have to say that, while this film is absolute brilliancy, and a remake would probabily be worse, I think that a guy who could pull it off would be Darren Aronofsky. After all, he's has used the same techniques on is films that Frankenheimer used on Seconds.
