This movie puts the entire Light Brigade in red trousers, but in fact only Cardigan's 11th Hussars wore such garments.
However, I seem to remember reading somewhere that movie-makers will frequently go with something that looks cinematically good, rather than factually accurate.

Not at all, I like a man who knows his stuff. Who shot the cheese, eh?
I sometimes think there should be a big banner at the entrance to IMDb saying WARNING: FEATURE FILM IS NOT DOCUMENTARY. It's perfectly possible to notice where film departs from fact but still enjoy it to the full, as you're obviously doing. Cheers.

Years ago, I read an article in a British military history magazine which explain that indeed the film-makers eventually portrayed them all in red overalls (trousers) after various try-outs, as it looked more striking on film, especially from a distance, compared to the more accurate dark blue (or experimental light grey in the case of the 17/L). I think historian John or Boris Mollo was the film's uniform consultant.
I similarly noted in the film that all the Highlanders in the film were all kitted out as the 93rd (Sutherland) Highlanders (with white vulture feather hackle on the Highland ostrich-feather bonnet, yellow facings, equally-spaced point-ended lace bars on the coatee front, universal tartan kilt, white on black "swinging six" sporran and scarlet/white hose). Of course, the 93rd's were the junior regiment in Sir Colin Campbell's Highland Brigade. At the Alma, they were in the centre, with the senior regiment, the 42nd (Royal Highland) Regiment, on the right and the 79th (Cameron) Highlanders on the left. The Forty-Twa of course had the scarlet hackle, dark blue facings, equally spaced bastion-ended lace on coatee, universal tartan kilt, black on white 5 bell-tassel sporran and scarlet/black hose. The 79th had white hackle, green facings, double square-ended lace on coatees, Cameron of Erracht kilt, white on grey two long-tail sporran and scarlet and green hose.
I suspect it was found more economic to dress all the Highlanders the same in the film to portray a Highland presence. I also suspect the British government has found much the same result when they merged all the very tribally dressed Scottish regiments to form the universally dressed Royal Regiment of Scotland.

IIRC it was only the service personnel or some auxilliaries w/c wore blue coats - oh and the Lancers - and that's what the likes of Commissary Dalton are wearing in the movie.
Now the coats they're wearing aren't actually accurate to the period but they're generally okay. What's a bit worse accuracy-wise would be the sparkling gilt helmet plate on the clean white helmets w/c would be lovely targets for Zulu snipers. The pith helmets would have been dyed earth colours in Africa on campaign.

Wrong. The 24th Regiment of Foot who defended Rorkes's Drift did indeed wear red coats.

They did the same with the movie Zulu, swapping the dark blue tunics of most of the soldiers at the battle of Rorkes Drift for the more visually-striking red.
