Hey wtl471629
Just caught it on TCM, it was William Holden day all day long! How lucky are we?!
Anyways, yes most excellent movie and it is worth downloading the article written back in 1967 about the filming of the movie. The URL is on this message board and I just finished commenting on the movie. Thread is called "article on filming of the movie" Read the article, very worthwhile getting the actual facts about The Black Devils Brigade and their fighting exploits. Also corrected some of my prior understanding, such as I thought they trained in Canada, but it was actually Montana. Apparently, these were some yes, rough and tough men, but mostly PRIDEFUL soldiers. Nevermind, stealth night rangers and farmers to boot! Also in how they got their name. Apparently, a diary was found on a dead German which stated something to the effect of"those Black Devils are always around us, on the line and we never hear them coming!" I tip my hat to these men for their bravery and patriotism, no doubt! Also to the producer/director for employing an actual soldier from the Brigade, then a Major, for accurate oversight in being faithful to the facts in the movie. Kudos all the way around!
Enjoy!
