I read a book where that is what they called them in WW11 at least officially.
same book mentions that they were originally set up to be a suicide unit, well trained, to drop into Norway I think, blow up a couple hydroelectric Dams then just stay and fight until they were eliminated.
That didn't come off, they did do a job in the Aleutians but the Japs had already left that object
Anywhere in the European Theater there was a bottleneck that couldn't be broken they were sent in
They asked no quarter and gave no quarter
whenever they went to work they expected to be killed
They were special breed of American/Canadian soldier
