I've just watched this movie and I have to say I found it quite the let down. I didn't properly laugh once.

The film is really flat and dreary; the camera hardly moves, it feels like a filmed play and the director Gene Saks did better directing two other stage to screen adaptations Barefoot in the Park (1967) and Cactus Flower (1969). Jack Lemon's Felix is not funny, just annoying. Though I did not see Art Carney's performance on stage, I think he would have been a better choice and Tony Randall who played Felix on the TV series managed to be both likable and amusingly neurotic. The film though not without humor and funny lines is pretty much a dud.

I'm also amazed that I had to read to the second line to find someone who got the OP's joke especially when he basically gave it away with the third line. I find threads like this very humorous not for the topic but for the responses they inspire.

I think the people who jumped on this thread, calling the author "uneducated" in the way of their film tastes are just as guilty of not paying attention as the people they criticise when they haven't payed enough attention to understand a film.

I was looking up Odd Couple because I was in a local theatre production and played Vinnie. John Fiedler and I are almost 180 degrees apart physically (I'm 6'4" -250lbs) but I played it almost exactly the same. Not really a parody, but amusing to those who noticed.
