Conquest and Escape are my second and third favorites, respectively, but part 1 set the bar really high for what the series would be. It's still my favorite and the one I think is the best. It's a stronger science-fiction film. And of course, it has one of the greatest twist endings in Hollywood history.
So many stories, so little time.

The opening third of the first film goes on a bit too long. You could cut fifteen minutes from the opening third without losing anything significant. Escape and Conquest both benefit from being shorter and more tightly plotted than the original.
You've seen Guy Standeven in something because the man was in everything.

Escape is the probably the smartest of the old films, with the best-written dialogue.

Always when I hear about the original Planit Apes movie, I always thinking the female astronauts should have encounter the apes and grillers… plus she was luscious also, hana

I remember reading about Roddy Mcdowell's travails trying to work in his mask- if I recall, he loved playing the part and the affection of his fans, but the mask was a pain.

Indeed! Those rubber are masks were pretty impressive, especially back in the day. CGI just feels soulless to me.

The reboot movies were great, really well-done.

I watched many of the Apes films as a child (and if I remember correctly there were many) and always enjoyed them. I have a hard time distinguishing one from another purely by memory however. They've done a good job with the reboot (not the Mark Wahlberg one) and I think the material holds up well over time when presented with fresh creature and special effects. I've been trying to find some of the films on Netlfix, Prime, and HBO but haven't had too much success. I'd like to revisit this series.
