Some amusing weaknesses (which I couldn't include in either the goofs or FAQs section) are listed here:
Its funny how the de-evolved humans are clean-shaven and upright while the evolved apes are still hairy and have a small hunch! (Maybe we should assume 2000 years is too small a gap for physical evolution.)
'Another solar system' must be the wrong usage since 'solar' means of our own sun. I think it should be 'another stellar system'. But anyways given how primitive the apes are, they may not know that their 'sun' is also a star. We don't even know what terminology they use to refer to their parent star..

I have seen this film numerous times - even in the theater when I was a small child (drive-thru, a cheap babysitter in those days!) anyway, last night I saw again, it in an actual theater TCM was showing it in several theaters throughout the country. They showed the scene you referenced and until a gentleman in the theater laughed, I had no idea what was so funny - I can't believe I missed it! It's hysterical!! Lol.
They're not speaking English. He's lip reading. The "English" is just dubbed in.

Maybe the film should have had an extra character, one who could be with Taylor when he was captured by the apes, one who could be his brains and help him out in his decisions. That character could be called Andrew W Johnson, an expert in brushing aside any allegory and other distracting narrative issues, and getting to the heart of the bleeding obvious.

In the same way that the characters on Star Trek kept finding people on other planets who spoke English, he just thinks they happened to evolve that way. It's the way foreigners all speak English in movies, same thing.

Incorrect. The term "solar system" refers to any star and its planets. The term "stellar system" is rarely ever used by anyone.
