The Cassavets wanted to pull Guy into their Devil worship lifestyle, but why use food? why not just cast a spell using 1 of their personal effects?

They invited Guy and Rosemary over to dinner to ingratiate themselves and for Roman to have a chance to talk to Guy. They pulled in Guy by offering him a deal, not just by feeding him. And the mousse wasn't to pull Guy in; Rosemary's serving was drugged so that she could be unconscious while the Devil raped her.
Personal belongings were used to put a curse on someonee.g., making Donald Baumgart go blind, putting Hutch into a coma. But they weren't trying to bring harm to Guy.
