The six-man posse of Le Flores and Lord Baltimore seemed creepily relentless, almost supernatural. They began to remind me of the Nazgul, the black riders in Lord of the Rings.

I wish they had given that posse an even more supernatural feel. I nearly joined in Paul Newman's half-wit response to them. After he had said "Who are those guys" for the umpteenth time.

Interesting pointand considering how Lord of the Rings was immensely popular in the generation when the movie was made It wouldn't surprise me a bit if that part of the story was intentional.
