Ive seen this movie countless times. An absolute masterpiece, but I always thought Barnard Hughes (Towny) was atleast in his 70's in this. I just looked it up. He was only 54!!!!!!. Man, he looked old.

Barnard Hughes was absolutely heartbreaking as the pathetic and desperate self-loathing homosexual Towny.

Hughes was one of those actors who always looked old, much like Harry Dean Stanton or Wilford Brimley.
To me, his most memorable role was as the mass murdering "patient" in the dark comedy
