Ok..having watched the DVD this morning, I can give the proper low-down on the "Elvira" DVD version of "The House That Screamed".
It's widescreen but it's NOT anamorphically enhanced. The print looks like the same one from the region 0 version from a few years ago (although a little more washed out). The english language track appears to have come from a VHS version and it's REALLY tinny sounding.
It's nowhere near as good as the Shoarma (Eurovista) version from a few years back, which can still be found on Ebay or from such dealers as Xploited Cinema.
See here for a better review of the Shoarma disc - http://www.dvdmaniacs.net/Reviews/E-H/house_that_screamed.html
http://xploitedcinema.com/catalog/house-that-screamed-p-3662.html
There are two choices on the Elvira disc, firstly to watch the movie as originally aired on "Movie Macabre", complete with Elvira's little asides and a comic interlude with "The Breather".
The other option is to watch the movie uninterrupted. Disappointingly though, this version still contains the 'fade-to-blacks' where the Elvira inserts are plugged in and it can be a little distracting a times (especially as some of them don't appear at a natural scene break).
It's a shame that nobody could've gotten a hold of the master that was used for the Italian DVD from 2006 (under the title "Gli Orrori Del Liceo Femminile") as this was an anamorphic & original language transfer. All they would need to do is pay up for a new english subtitle track.
http://www.spietati.it/archivio/recensioni/dvd/2006/orrori_liceo_femminile.htm
If you're a fan of cheesy late-night TV then this disc IS good fun, but if you're a fan of the movie, looking for an improved version for your collection, then I would avoid this disc like the plague.
The best 'english-friendly' version for now would appear to be the aforementioned Shoarma version.

I watched the Elvira 'version' tonight, fascinating film. Just to let anybody still following this thread know that the original soundtracks for four films scored by Waldo De Los Rios, including La Residencia, are being released in late November on the Singula Records label.

"There is a bit, just as the showers are ending, where the son is stuck in the crawlspace and asking for help from the new girl the next scene has her being accused of hanging out with the boy in the furnace room it's kind of confusing and there must have been a cut there, either to remove a sex scene or just to trim the time or something.
Also, at the end, the mean girl is looking for a way out of the house and then suddenly is found dead I'm assuming there was a scene where she was attacked."
Actually, no, the Elvira version is as full a version as you'll get. There was never any scene where it showed Teresa actually helping Luis escape from the crawlspace: the viewer is just supposed to put two and two together. And Irene's death is never shown in any cut of the film either. That is supposed to be a surprise as the viewer is led to suspect Madame Fourneau is pursuing Irene in order to kill her. Only when she finds Irene dead do we know that Foreneau is not the killer.

I just watched the version that is up on Hulu, so I'm not sure if it's the same as the one on the DVD but it was obviously missing some scenes.
The Elvira version is fun but definitely chopped.

The Elvira version comes in at a running time of 114 mins (not sure if that includes the little elvira snipes or not).
Hope that helps a little.

I just wanted you to know that the Elvira version IS the correct version from 1969..I just received it in the mail yesterday. Definitely a strange borderline depraved little film. The 2000 film is one of the Polonia brothers works of "art"..lol..order the elvira one and youll be pleased!!

Dear Glennascaul,
Before I pose my question, I have to say that I cheered when I saw your screen name! I can only assume it is a tribute to the rare and wonderful "Return to Glennascaul". After many years of curiosity, I finally stumbled on a copy of this lovely piece of otherworldly cinema just a few weeks ago. Believe it or not, I found it through my public library. It was definitely worth the wait!
But, on a more relevant note, I need your help regarding the "Elvira" version of La Residencia. Based on the discussions here, it certainly sounds like her version includes the 1969 movie. Yet, when I read the description of the Elvira DVD on Amazon, it describes the unrelated US movie done in the year 2000 ( a poorly reviewed movie about a horror writer who finds himself trapped in haunted house). Should I take it on faith that Amazon made a mistake in it's description and that the Elvira version is indeed the 1969 Spanish movie about murders in a girls boarding school?
I'd really love to be able to see this movie, but would hate to end up ordering the wrong thing, particularly when the alternative movie is so poor. Could you kindly advise me on this?
Thank you!
Sheila

I just bought the Elvira-hosted disc, having never seen the movie before, and it was actually a pretty cool thriller. I wish the shower scenes had featured the girls completely naked, though. Alot of the students are pretty hot, especially Irene. Sadistic lesbo nazis are always hotter in movies than they are in real life, though.

Yep, was just about to post something similiar to this, there's some corruption on the soundtrack that becomes a little irritating after a while. Watchable though and a good film.
