If you had needed a nanny when you were young, would you have wanted Nanny or Mary Poppins? I think I would have preferred Nanny. Mary Poppins was more than a spoonful of sugar, she was cloyingly sweet. In fact, I would even have preferred the fictionalized Maria von Trapp from
The Sound of Music
over Mary Poppins.

Mary Poppins is a Time Lady (her carpet bag is bigger on the inside), but there was something very polarized about Mary Poppins. Bert had to CONSTANTLY remind her of what she could do; Phoebe was an independent operator and was prettier (in my eyes).
