Who else thinks the football game was the movie's best part? You've gotta love when the gun goes off and Hotlips says, "Oh my God! They've shot him!"
Then Colonel Blake says, "Hotlips, you incredible nincompoop! It's the end of the quarter!" That made me laugh so hard!

I thought the film had lost it's way by then (and even more so during). The first half of the film was dominated by Sutherland's Hawkeye, but he blended into the background.
It's one of those films I remember well, yet struggle to recall the end.

Can't believe some of these responses. Maybe they don't know enough about football? The center-handoff trick play is one of the greatest scenes of all time. "Hey coach, I got the ball!"

Agree with a couple others here. It was the least interesting episode, I thought. I understood the parallels between the game and war, but I wondered if the sequence would've worked better if it had been slightly condensed. I understand why it's there, I suppose, although a little more absurdity would've helped it along.
Sorta reminds me of the end of Duck Soup, although that film ends with far more absurdity and probably makes the anti-war/anti-bureaucracy message more powerfully.

I thought it was the only part that kept me from disliking the movie. I fell asleep for a few mintutes but this part woke me up. I had a friend who just walked away from the film while my other friend thought the movie was amazing. Didin't hate the movie but that part kept me awake.

Right. Altman termed it a metaphor for the battle scenes we don't see in the film.

It does go on a tad long, but it is funny, and appropriate. I think they were showing how war is considered a game by many, and contrasting it with an actual game.
My only problem is that by making it go on so long, the ending seemed rushed. I wanted more of Hawkeye and Trapper and Duke and Radar, and it all ended so suddenly. I could have watched about half an hour more of MASH stuff.

Me!
The part where Spearchucker tells one of the other 4077 players the opposing sister's name, and then tells him to "use it".
"Okay, bub, your fcking head is coming right off."
The part where they pass the joint down the bench.
Ben Davidson.
Best football game I've ever seen.

The football game is awesome. I can't say it's the best part of the movie because I enjoyed so many scenes equally well. I will say the worst/weakest part of the movie was the scene where they deal with Painless wanting to commit suicide due to his "performance" problems. That scene was slow and not up to par with the rest of the film, in my opinion.

Yeah i'm with you Pharaoh. I think its the worst scene in an otherwise flawless film. Its funny at first but then it goes on for WAY too long.
