There was only one season without him and Gloria. I had thought he left around season 6. I know that after he left the show sucked. He was important. He was a great foil for Archie (and vice versa). As important as Archie and Edith. When Mike was gone in the last season they turned him into a kind of deadbeat dad, which was really weak. Joey was annoying, as was the little girl. All great shows last too long. I'd say this was a show that had five or six great seasons.
