People are just too trusting. They're the ones doing the assuming - thinking that it's a given that if it's released on disc must mean that it's unedited.

You're just assuming, however. I've never heard any complaints from people on the TNG board about it.

Yes, but the first season of War of the Worlds (also syndicated and released in 1988) was longer than 45 minutes. The sci-Fi Channel had to edit the reruns to fit it into their 45 minute running time.

I never heard nothing about them being the syndicated versions, or incomplete in any way. TNG was a syndicated show to begin with.

Absolutely with the 2000s running time, but I'd be suspicious of the Next Generation (particularly the early seasons).

Well, the TNG episodes were 44 minutes plus. Like 44.35. So rounded up is like 45 minutes. L&O Criminal Intent, by the 2000's were about 42 minutes long.

They changed it from 52 to 51 in 1966 when all network shows went to color (there were a few that were already). The running time reduction was to help with the additional expense of color. In the mid and late '70s inflation caused the running times to be shortened. Every once in a while after that they kept reducing further.
The Next Generation should've been longer than 44 minutes (at least the early seasons). Back in the '90s one of the stations aired older TNG episodes uncut, but cheated by speeding up the footage. They wouldn't have had to do that if they were only 44 minutes. At that time syndicated shows ran at 45 minutes (although some local channels aired shows at the original syndicated running time of 47-48 minutes).

Are you sure? Because the Perry Mason's I have are all about 52 minutes long, and that's the late 50's early 60's. By the 70's I'd figure they'd be down to around 47, or 48 minutes. Because by TNG's time, they're about 44 minutes.

47- 48 minutes, which is the original syndicated running time for a '70s network show. At least in the first half of the '70s the original running time would be 50-51 minutes.
