Jane Fonda is so amazingly perfect in this role a spot on performance all around but I would have to say my favorite scene is near the end when she is listening to the tape of her girlfriend and its a side profile of her face and she is crying and I mean really crying tears running down dropping off the end of her nose I remember being so incredibly moved the first time I saw it.

Yes, she did. At that point people hated her. My error.

No she did win. Didn't she? I have to Google it but I am sure that I saw video of her accepting the award.

She was so good. She should have received an academy award, but the stain of her Vietnam name faux pas still clung to her.

The Oscars is overrated and meaningless self congratulatory garbage in an all exclusive club where the “winners” are picked on bias and not performance.
Jane is a terrible “actress” just like dear old and dead dad Henry.

Oh, definitely!
As good as she was scene-to-scene, the scene with the killer and tape recorder playing is terrifying and she plays it perfectly.
I thought this scene nailed her win down.

i thought the one of last scenes with her psychiatrist, when she tries to explain her sabotaging her relationship with Klute was pretty amazing, that and the first seduction (as well as the gutsy scene of her crying at the end) probably won her the Oscar.

Jane Fonda winning for Klute in 1971 was one of the most deserved Best Actress wins in Oscar history. Bree Daniels is such a great character. Fonda was astonishing and painful to watch, in a good way. She simply blew me away.

Funny Girl
, can you? Among Pauline Kael's favorites was Jane Fonda and Barbra Streisand.
Both wonderful actresses in the right vehicles..
Streisand says she tells Jane Fonda all the time if it hadn't been for her she wouldn't have a career because she turned down Klute, Julia and They Shoot Horses, Don't They? Streisand also says she's kinda sad she turned down Julia because Lillian Hellman said to her, "YOU should've played me"
