<p dir="auto">This one always bothered me. Al Pacino is unquestionably the lead of the film, but what about Brando? To me, he sort of straddles the line between lead and supporting.</p>

I can see this question for Superman tho. I guess Gene Hackman got top billing in Superman 1 and 2 because Reeve was unknown at the time.<br />

<p dir="auto">The story is about Al Pacino's journey from war hero - who is ashamed of his family's business - to eventual Godfather.<br />
So, Michael is the lead character. Does that mean Pacino is the lead actor? It's unusual for a supporting character like Don Corleone to be played by the lead actor, but maybe it's not impossible.<br />
I guess I'm on the fence with this one.<br />
