I'll start by saying I love Cushing and Lee together. The Hammer films they made are some of my favorites.
But this one just didn't seem special to me whatsoever. I'm not trying to be nasty or a troll here, just honest. If anyone want's to check my posting history it's easy to see that I don't troll these forumsbut I do endeavor to be truthful and state my opinions respectfully. I'm not saying I hated it. I just didn't find it to be that great.
I've gone through the threads here, and it's pretty obvious that a lot of the big fans of this film saw it when they were young. However I did not see this film as a kidso I have no youthful nostalgia for it. So seeing it for the first time as an adult, it just didn't do a lot for me, although it was interesting to see both Lee and Cushing as good guys.
FYI - I saw Dark Shadows during its first run and it scared the tar outta me. Watching it now it's not scary at all, but rather I find it fun. There's a lot to be said for nostalgia in relation to likes and dislikes. Goonies is a good exampleI was of age when it first came out, so I don't have the connection that others who saw it as a kid do. But my daughter thinks it's the greatest movie ever made.
And I will admit I was a bit confused as to why this was rated R. Not a single frame of skin nor any profanity, and the gore was pretty tame as compared to a lot of films from that era.
I've seen a lot of posters here give it 10/10, and I respectfully disagree with this rating. But no big deal, I give She Done Him Wrong 10/10, and a lot of users disagree entirely.
But I did give it a chance. I just found it to be "OK", rather than great.
