This movie is just for laughs. None of the characters has any redeeming value. Gene Hackman could not wait to get out of there and take advantage of his opportunities from winning the Oscar for the French Connection. Shelly Winters (a beached whale) and Red Buttons seemed to be giving a master class in Yiddish Theater. As usual, Shelly gave one of her over the top performances a perfect companion to Ernest Borgnine's one-note over and over again (now I'm really pissed off!). Maybe I missed it, but was there even one black face in this movie? What a throw back to Hollywood's good old days.

You are a very poor and deplorable example for our young people today and for adults and you are totally insensitive. A responsible person watches a movie and feels for what the characters are going through and a responsible person teaches young people to do the same.
This movie featured people having died, suffered and many fought to survive. None of the characters had redeeming qualities? You certainly did not pay attention while watching this movie. Two characters lose their wives and they keep on living and fighting to survive despite their pain and grief from their loss. A woman watches the man she has had a crush on die, but she still refuses to give up. A man who felt no one care about him finds that he can help another person not quit fighting to survive. There were plenty of characters with redeeming qualities, even to some extent, the rebellious preacher leading the survivors.

There is one black man standing near the purser in the dining room after the ship capsizes. And one black woman sitting by one of the major characters during dinner.
