I wonder if the contestants on the show ever became confused (or annoyed) when Gene Rayburn employed his Old Man Periwinkle impression, when reading a question for them to respond to? With Gene's doddering delivery, it sometime seemed if the contestants had difficulty in clearly understanding the question. in fact, I can recall a few instances in which a contestant asked Gene to repeat the question (hopefully, without Gene's "embellishing" of the question).
When Gene did his "Don Corleone," impression on The Match Game, it seemed as if the contestants also had difficulty in understanding him. I realize that the late, great Mr. Rayburn was trying to interject humor into the show, but, after all, the contestants WERE trying to win money and Gene's, at times, overly enthusiastic readings of the questions, made it unnecessarily difficult for them to come up with a logical/common sense response, imo.

Did you see the episode, where CNR took off his toupee and put it on the top of a young, bald-headed contestant? "You look ten years younger," quipped Mr. Reilly. I mean, Gene Rayburn, the celebrities and the entire studio audience erupted into uncontrollable laughter!
CNR had an incredible sense of humor!

I don't find him all that funny. He is a good host but he is terrible at improv or ad libbing.
CNR does it the best.

There were certainly plenty of times the contestants and panelists asked to read the question card itself.
