Does anyone know for sure which format this was shot on? A friend and I attended a theatrical screening (35mm) of the film and we were arguing about this. He was sure that it was 16mm whereas I leant towards 35mm. IMDB says 35mm but IMDB never is reliable if it comes to such data (aspect ratios as well, you can find wrong information in that field all the time). Some production stills where the camera is visible would be helpful as well. It seems as if the camera listed on IMDB (Arriflex 2C) is a 35mm model but then again, it's IMDB.
