Well, as you’re already well aware Anna, Carrie rode the short wagon to school. But the situation took a turn for the worse, following the incident when Carrie fell into the outhouse, and was blowing bubbles for a half an hour before they were finally able to retrieve her. But as to your concern, no. I don’t think that she was aware that Pa and Ma were actively in the process of making her replacement, as she innocently slept along side them

I think charles gave it to his wife either in the barn as a nooner or he took her up to the soddie and gave it to her there.

Maybe he didn't want to. After all, they were used to live in one-room log cabins.

Pretty lazy of Charles to live in the same house for 8 years and not even put a wall between his and Carrie's side of the room! Where the heck would a guest sleep, in the barn?

For what it's worth, back in the olden days, when I was little, I slept in the same room with my parents till I was 7 years old, but don't remember ever seeing or hearing them having sex (and I consider myself to be a light sleeper.) I did play outside a lot though

Wasn't that a common thing back them (and probably still is in some places around the world)? I remember hearing about pioneer families who would all sleep in one room, sometimes even one bed. It's often been discussed how they managed to have sex.

When he enlarged the cooking area, I always thought they needed another bedroom more. I would much rather my kid be out of my bedroom than have more room for the cook stove. She used the fireplace for cooking and baking anyway.

I always found it strange that Charles never bothered to build an extra room. He didn't even have to expand the house; just a wall between Carrie's bed and theirs would have been enough.
When James and Cassandra moved in they did discuss the addition of an extra room, so it was definitely an option. The land was theirs, so nothing was stopping them from adding on. I get that they were poor, but was it really that impossible to build one wall?

I agree. It is strange that Carrie left pretty close to Charles and Caroline's bed. Charles should have built them a house that had real separate bedrooms. Charles did anything he could on the show to get out of doing work or less work. I guess he thought that a one room house with a loft is an acceptable house. He should had help building the house and he should have made sure that the house had separate bedrooms with a door for each bedroom.

She also had to watch Charles laugh like a maniac with popcorn flying out of his mouth. Very disturbing.

I've always wondered why they didn't use a chamber pot, it would have been more convenient than going to the outhouse, especially on cold nights.

I always found it weird that they eventually sent Carrie up to the loft she'd have to climb down every hour to run to the outhouse!

I always found that odd too. She had to have heard or seen it all.
And did she ever move upstairs, once Mary moved out? Guess not because Albert was there then.
So was Carrie and Grace both in the parents room then?
