We made fun of the
fictional
characters, not the real Ingalls family. That's because the writers tried to make them relevant to a 1970s audience by having the characters face 20th Century issues through an 1870s filter (
i.e.
drug abuse became Albert's morphine addiction), and a lot of the times this concept backfired. The anachronisms and general lack of continuity could have some unintentionally humourous results.
That didn't mean we hated the show. I still like the series. We just had some fun with it.

That's probably true. I myself have only been here about a year I think so I can't speak to what it was like in years past. But I do know that in the last year, while I've always observed some "making fun" comments, something shifted several months ago and they started becoming more mean-spirited in tone than was previously the case. There was a very notable shift in the overall tone of the forum. But again, maybe that's not a new thing and there's been different cycles and maybe in years past it was similar or worse - I wouldn't know.
Actually, compared to some shows' forums, this LHOP forum could be considered saintly in comparison, but that's not saying very much

I don't even know ron! I was just agreeing with him ! This is(or was in this case) a place to discuss LHOP normally without making fun of the characters & each other. I've found myself blocking some people because I didn't want to see their stupid posts. Why get myself annoyed over trolls? In my opinion getting the boards taken down is a good idea. There's other boards on here that are hell to deal with . I'm sure the mods have thrown their hands in the air & said "Enough is enough!"

Ah, the sign of a true "Advanced Troll", other than the incessant name-calling, is the tried-and-true "I'll post my crap under multiple accounts" method. I find it quite interesting "Truthisgood" that you only have 4 posts under your profile, 3 of which are the ones here today and the first one was on a thread on a completely different forum with only 3 replies and one of those replies just happened to be from our very own infamous "Albert_Ingalls" troll. Wow, imagine that! What are the chances?!
Me thinks you might go into withdrawal once your outlet to attack here dries up shortly. I hope you have alternate sites where you can get your "troll" fix because just like a junkie (or Albert in "Home Again") you're gonna need it. Otherwise the withdrawal might be overwhelming. If you can't find Charles to sit with you and hold you down when the tremors come, you might find you need therapy to help you through. But there's freedom on the other side! You don't have to be a troll any longer! This could be your opportunity to embrace that "good Truth" your new username mentions of what you have become and what you could be. Just like Albert in Home Again, YOU "Albert_Ingalls" can go "cold turkey" and experience freedom from your trolling ways!

That's because, even though the boards are closing, "his" post was completely inappropriate and too vulgar to leave for the remaining time AND the reason it IS happening! And I say to "his" ilk, "THANKS for ruining it for all!"

There's a big difference between making fun in a reverential way versus just being crude for the sake of being crude and/or seeking to attack or demean just to make the show seem stupid or ridiculous to people. Many of the posts in question have been of this latter type, NOT the Alison Arngrim type. There is room with LHOP to have some good-natured fun, but that can be done in a reverential way. There have actually been some good funny posts like that in the past. But some - especially more recently - have crossed the line into just being mean and/or vulgar and/or obviously trolling. That is what the OP and myself (and surely countless "silent others") have objected to.
What I find really interesting is that even with only 2 weeks left to go, a few posts are SO off-the-charts bad that even imdb feels they need to remove NOW. The post that user Albert_Ingalls (whose posts are almost always vulgar) posted the other day with a whole crude paragraph about just how he wanted to screw (his word) Laura has completely disappeared from the forum.

Must be kicking and screaming for ice cream over this book.

All one needs to do to see why imdb forums are being shut down is look at some of the thread titles of this forum from the last 10-20 days:
"Is Grace the love child of handyman Chris and Caroline?"
"Masturbation"
"Rev. Alden was a terrible judge of character"
"Albert was a bastard in every sense of the word"
"Was Charles The Most Beat-Up Regular Character On T.V.?"
(considering there were only like 3 episodes out of 200+ where this happened proves this question and topic to be nothing but spam - proved further by the poster's bumping of his own thread 3-days-later to get comments!)
"Caroline Cheating"
"charles was a fake tough guy"
"Mr. Edwards was a Satanist"
"how often did charles and caroline have sex?"
"charles just cracks me up"
"Charles Most Hypocritical Moment?"
And that's just some of the top-level thread titles. Most of the others have similar comments within them by a very vocal handful of users - making fun of the show and/or making twisted comments. The overall vibe of the forum hasn't been fans discussing the show, but a group of immature guys just wanting to rag on the show.
Multiply this problem by many of the other TV shows and movies on imdb, and one easily sees why imdb could come to such a conclusion. This kind of stuff can affect the portrayal of shows which can make content owners very unhappy and can also affect advertising.

You make me laugh deem_bastille. On a thread talking about the problem of stupid and inappropriate posts and in reply to my post talking about how maybe all the posts talking about how stupid the show and the Ingalls were will stop now, the fact that you went out of your way to comment that Charles really is an idiot, shows everyone who the real "troll" is. Then when I generically said I was sick of you in general calling him an ass, you object at that characterization on my part because you didn't call him literally an "ass" on this thread. Then when I show words that you said not YEARS ago, but only 6 days ago on another thread, calling him and 2 others douchebags and bitches and then calling me a "bitch" for calling you on itwell, I think it all speaks for itself my friend. This is EXACTLY why imdb forums need to close.

Perhaps in real-life to some degree, but as portrayed on the show, that as a whole is not a defensible position. That's another thing I won't miss: the umpteen zillion times you felt the need to tell everyone how in real life Charles was an ass. Thank you for proving the point of this thread.
it is the real trolls who drudge up things said on one thread and drag them to other threads and boards.
and I only bring these thing up because even the real Laura was trying to caution us on how her father really was. Her stories about her life were good but too juicy for children when she first wrote them.
