I see a couple of posters on here talking about there being bullying here and IMDB closing boards due to that and inappropriate posts.
Have the ones angry actually been bullied on here? Or just don't like the opinions and humor of some of the others?
I know some of the posts on here can be dark and a little twisted, but don't see that as bullying.
For the most part, people are making fun of the Ingalls and other characters. It would be different if it were people on the board they were insulting.
Yes, once upon a time, the Ingalls were real living people. But they have been dead a long time. And this show took a lot of liberties and exaggerated or changed a lot from Laura Ingalls Wilder's books. So most stories on the show are not even true to the actual people.
On some other boards I go on, characters are also made fun of and jokes made. Like on here, some are really funny and others not so much. So I just don't comment on ones I don't find funny. People have different senses of humor.
So why are some on here so offended? And I am not trying to be a smart a$$. Just really wanna know if people have felt bullied? Or just offended because they feel like characters they like are being insulted and don't like the immaturity of some posters?
Just wondering:)
And I have definitely made some funny and exaggerated posts on this board and others. I found them funny and not really serious, and some found them funny too. Although others may not have.
So I am sorry if my somewhat different sense of humor ever offended anyone

Yes, you are one of those I absolutely was referring to liamforeman.
Not every episode was family-friendly including Sylvia as you mentioned, but the vast majority are. And yes, there were some issues with the Ingalls' but a lot of that (such as you referred to between Charles & Caroline or Caroline's reactions) were a reflection of the roles of men and women at that time. Actually considering the timeframe depicted, LHOP Michael Landon-style was often actually pretty progressive regarding women as a whole.
And if I was a woman in the 1800's and a couple of known bully men came up to me and put their hand on me and I was carrying eggs, I might drop those eggs too. Different times. You can't watch the show through a 2017 lens expecting their behavior to match what you'd expect of a woman today. You have to watch it through the lens of a period drama set in the late 1800's
And no, those of us who ARE able to watch the show as it was intended, don't appreciate the stupid posts from people who can't.
And for the record, there's like 3 out of 204 episodes where Charles' ribs get broken

I'm sure I'm one of the ones who like to have fun on this board by making fun of the preposterousness of the show being "family friendly fun". We have a busybody Charles who neglects his own failings to focus on others'. Laura was JUST as bad as Nellie yet we as kids were supposed to look up to her, etc. I grew up on LHOP and now as an adult I see some really messed up things. So I poke fun of the pretentiousness. And the total discord. I mean Caroline gets touched on the shoulder and drops her eggs by the Gallenders, she runs home crying and Charles practically ATTACKS her to get her to open up when she's obviously upset. I mean, WHO was the real abuser? Charles with his glass ribs liked to pick on the less fortunate but when someone was sick of his meddling break his dang ribs!
As for family fare Shall we bring up Sylvia who drops her flowers in the meadow and is taken by someone wearing a clown mask?!?!? It was obvious as an adult that he had a sick sense of humor. So we're just following in Landon's style. I'm sure he'd get a kick out of the threads. (Mary going blind from too much masturbation for instance, hehe). Some people are so easily offended. Too bad. It made the board a little bit more, umm REAL?, when we make up our own reasons for the strange things happening with the Ingalls.
Jezebel! Flauntin' your flesh in temptation's raiment! You will burn. Oh you will burn!

Since your post seems to be an honest question, I'll give you the same courtesy and address respectfully.
I personally haven't really felt bullied. There ARE forums where real bullying has taken place ("Full House" forum anyone?) but I wouldn't say that about this one for the most part.
I also get that not everyone has the same sense of humor and what not. We're all different, and as you mention there are some legitimate points and/or funny things that could be pointed out regarding this show. I am not one that can't stand a good-natured laugh at some of the funny aspects.
With that said, what I HAVE objected to is that many of the posts especially in recent times haven't come across as good-natured joking about the show, but merely mean-spirited attacks serving no purpose except to make the show look absolutely stupid, every character in the show (except for Mrs. Oleson & Nellie) seem absolutely stupid, and whatnot.
Many people like this show as decent entertainment that's generally family-friendly (not every episode of course) and that gives good moral lessons. But then people come on here and say that really the only good characters in the show are Mrs. Oleson and Nellie. It's like some strange reverse-world everyone's living in.
Then when thread after thread seeks to claim that Caroline and/or Charles were sleeping around and breaking their vows, or talking about their sex life constantly, etc - it really makes you wonder about people that post that stuff and what their goal is.
What I've observed is a number of people on here recently seem to have as their goal not to discuss a show they enjoy and maybe poke some good, yet reverential fun at (a la Alison Arngrim style), but rather just seek to tear apart the show and make it seem as though it is completely unwholesome and that all the major characters were terrible examples - basically seeking to completely undermine any value to the show except for watching it to laugh at the Ingalls or to try to emulate Mrs. Oleson or Nellie, which anybody that has really seen the show should know is preposterous. While Harriet & Nellie certainly can have some good points (i.e. honesty), to see them as the heroes of the show requires having a completely mixed-up idea about what is good behavior and what is bad behavior.
In other words, the bottom line is that many of those posting seem to just want to bash the show and/or make as many crude statements as possible - in other words to basically be "trolls" on this forum. When a user like Albert_Ingalls (joking or not in his mind) posts a new thread with a paragraph merely describing in graphic terms just what he wants (and has always wanted) to do to Laura sexually pretty much sums up the problem.
As for the real Ingalls, there were apparently real concerns about them in real life that I haven't minded being brought up sometimes. But this forum is about the TV show, not the real life Ingalls. I've never minded an honest assessment of the real-life Ingalls, but honestly I also tired of the negatives of the real-life Ingalls constantly being brought up to also seemingly attack the show which we all know had only a faint-tie-in to real-life with all the liberties taken in lots of areas.
While I myself don't particularly feel bullied (though I was just called a "bitch" by another user a few days ago), there is a "group think" mentality that dissuades people that just want to have honest & fun discussions from posting because they see all these other posts by people attacking the show and speaking crudely/rudely about the show, etc. Thus it discourages them from posting because who wants to be a part of that?? Thus many of the good, healthy discussions don't get posted and all that remains is the lowest-common-denominator of people that just want to sling mud around.
It comes down to motivation: When I see people here that just constantly want to attack the show, I wonder why they are here. Some good-natured joking is fine. But when every other thread or comment is attacking a major character or rehashing the same tired Charles' ribs joke over and over and over, it gets real old real quick.
And yes, I do think, multiplied by many thousands of forums here, this is to IMDB's shame and probably does figure heavily into their decision to close.
By the way, this opinion of mine and others about the problem of stupid/offensive posts on imdb being a major problem is shared by many others. Check out this thread from the movie enthusiasts at blu-ray.com - you'll find MANY people saying the same thing regarding imdb:
