Unleashed on this day–7 Feb.–in 1974, Mel Brooks' masterpiece BLAZING SADDLES! The first time Bart whipped this out! The first time the sheriff was near! The first time Lilly revealed she was no wabbit! The first time Hedley Lamarr risked his Academy Aware nomination! The first time that shovel was put to some good use!
Comedy tends to age like milk but this one was so far ahead of its time that it's still ahead of it now. If not the greatest comedy ever made, certainly in the top one.
