If you watch this film as a comedy, it's utterly hilarious.

Agreed. This movie has quite a sizeable number of hysterically funny moments in it. I totally busted a gut when the tranny stuntman turned around to show a bunch of fake glass in his face that was obviously put on his face in advance. Moreover, the guy drinking beer and eating chicken on the balcony of his house on stilts who gets sent tumbling down a hill ass over teakettle with a lawn chair sliding right behind him was another positively sidesplitting sight to behold.
You've seen Guy Standeven in something because the man was in everything.

I always burst out in laughter when Charlton Heston and Ava Gardner are in the elevator and Gardner hisses "You're really going to see that Marshall bitch"

The part after the elevator falls and the blood splatters on the screen was pretty hilarious

I agree with the OP's comment on the comedy. Here are some parts I found funny. A short blond woman in the elevator splatter scene is later shown crawling out of a basement window in another part of town. How'd she manage that? Was she Wonder Woman? The tall "glass in the face lady" is obviously a man dressed in an overcoat and a woman's wig. Jody's tormentor's reminded me of the "Three Stooges". They were hilarious as they followed Jody down the staircase in the apartment building and shouted military commands at him.

Ava Gardner as much as I love her provides some unintended humor. Also the creeper Natl. Guardsmen and the Animated blood Splatter.
