it would be hard to watch both films and believe that Michael would have Clemenza killed… He was like an uncle and he was the guy who really started everything (with the rug heist and hiding guns)…
Plus it would be nearly impossible to think he'd become a rat for the feds… No way on earth…
Michael Gazzo was perfect as his replacement… He was doomed from the get-go while Clemenza was better off dying off-screen…
Like DeNiro added a lot and took up the Brando position (literally) while also taking up the Michael-as-climber position, Gazzo was a great addition and his temper helped make up for this film's underrated loss, James Caan (yes i know he turns up at the end)…
