Another thing I think is super about this show is how many of the guest stars later showed up on other Levinson and Link productions, like Columbo and Murder She Wrote. I think whoever produced those shows must have kept a little book of actors they hired, in what parts, and dare I say it, how dependable/reliable? they were, perhaps? Since so many actors were used again. Of course it is also fun to see John Larroquette and Dee Wallace in bit parts, before they were famous.

Oh yes, I wish that Paula Prentiss had appeared in one of the EQ episodes! Not necessarily as a girlfriend, but maybe as a suspect or something.

Of course not!
I love it when I see two actors show up in the same show that worked with each other before especially if one became shall we say, more famous than the other?
I noticed that in Murder She Wrote more than once in one episode, early on (I didn't catch it but my mom did) Hurd Hatfield, Dorian Grey in the movie showed up in an episode Angela played a girl he shall we say, defiled, in Dorian. Her part wasn't that big then, but years later, things turned around. Jerry Orbach appeared several times, and of course he and Angela both showed up as voice actors in Beauty and the Beast.
One on my favorite cases of that happening is Jamie Farr and William Christopher showing up as hippies and a mostly forgotten 60's flick called With Six You Get Eggroll ten years later, they both had big supporting roles in MASH.
The one I think would have been neat would be Paula Prentiss having a guest star role on Ellery.
How sad, that you were not born in my time, nor I, in yours.

I hope you don't mind my replying to an old post here.
I've also noticed that some of the guest actors had worked with Jim in some of his earlier movies, such as
Bachelor in Paradise
and
Who's Minding the Mint
.
