In The Germans when Basil does the Hitler impression, he does the finger-moustache thing - just like pretty much everyone else in the world has at some point. I've seen that scene dozens of times and have only just realised the absurdity of someone who actually HAS a moustache using his finger to pretend he has one You could argue NOT using the finger makes the impression slightly creepy I suppose, but I think it's just something Basil would do without thinking anything of it at all
