Louise's Uncle Ward asks why he's supposedly an Uncle Tom for serving a rich Caucasian family for 20 years when George ISN'T an Uncle Time for sucking up to rich Caucasian Businessmen.
A stumped George doesn't answer and just ridicules Uncle Ward for not knowing the difference.
My guess is that if George had time to think of an answer he would explain that as the head of his own business, George works WITH rich Caucasian businessmen. Being a butler, Uncle Ward worked FOR rich Caucasians and is thus an Uncle Tom.

I like how Ward then added, "and George, I would never call YOU an Uncle Tom!"

There was also the part where Ward asked George if he knew who Uncle Tom was and he gave an answer that has been accepted as truth, when in reality he was a slave named Josiah Henson, who escaped to Canada and helped 100 other slaves escape up north even before the underground railroad existed. The point was that Uncle Tom was really a hero and a great man, not some dumb black who used to thank Simon Legree for whipping his ass.

He might have said that to Lionel, but I'm sure he had George in mind as well when he said that

He said that to Lionel, actually. And a funny thing: The actor Albert Reed, would go on to Good Times, which was created by Mike Evans, who was Lionel in the Uncle Ward episode.

One of my favorite episodes, and one of my favorite quotes, wish he woulda had at least one more episode, loved the way he put George and Lionel in their places

Great episode and great response. I still like what Uncle Ward said to Lionel and George for making fun and talking down to him:
"If it hadn't been for us 'Old Uncle Toms', you 'Youngbloods' wouldn't be around here today!"
