There's honestly no good reason. It's mainly because the bible says Israel is essential to the end times and christian wackjobs in the USA want to see that happen, and so Israel exploits the stupidity of these wackjobs to get whatever they want from the USA.

A combination of things: wealthy Jewish donors (AIPAC) buying our politicians; the Christian Right's fixation with Israel because of Biblical mumbo jumbo i.e., a lousy and uneducated interpretation of the Book of Revelation; and the US maintaining its hegemony in the Middle East (Israel is our partner in crime over there along with Saudi Arabia).
Couple those things with an irrational fear of Muslims (Islamophobia) and you've got a noxious and dangerous alliance that's not going to end well for anyone.

I used to believe that Israel was just another arm of the American Empire but now it's a case of the tail wagging the dog. More often than not, Israel is the one giving out the orders (e.g., Netanyahu inviting himself to speak before Congress) and America obeys.
