It's on TV tonight but seems to be the normal version. One IMDB review says the normal version is full of plot holes, and the Directors Cut is the one to see, although I can't find it online. Which version should I go for?

Both. I originally saw the short version. When I saw the longer version it was a revelation. The long version wasn't just longer, it was almost like seeing a different movie. Entire characters and plot arcs were removed in the shorter version, giving a totally different tone. My preference is definitely for the longer, but seeing both and comparing them is an interesting study on the power of film editing.
