I rewatched this recently in honor of David Bowie's recent death. I think the film should be remade but make it more linear and less avant garde. One needs repeated views to catch all the subtext.
The main characters age (other than Bowie) to indicate time progress.
Nothing wrong with the gratuitous female nudity.:-)
OT: There's only one family on an entire planet?
That's just my two cents.

Whats with this current remake obsession? Why does it have to be remade? Theres "reboots" now of films that came out ten years ago.

Who would play Newton's/Bowie's role? I can't think of anyone who could play that part so well.
I'm also puzzled by your desire for a simpler film ("less non-linear and avant garde") when it's already pretty straightforward. I suppose the wonky Martian train could be improved, but often Hollywood production values add surprisingly little: look at the remake of 'Solaris' or else 'Dogville'. (The latter was filmed on a black soundstage, with the streets sketched in paint on the floor, and the houses represented by a few free-standing doors and window frames., "Dogville" could have been a brilliantly shot film of a play. I'm not convinced that the approach was an improvement on good, conventional films, but I'm glad the director tried the idea.)

Sounds good to me. Could end up really interesting. And since film technology has come a long way since then I think they could really wow and make it look even more sci-fi then the original.
