Been watching this movie on the Starz channels. But their version doesn't include at least a couple of scenes, one of which is when Ronnie finds Roy in the shower, trying to deal with his obsessive thoughts. Annoying that they ever show an edited version. Why would they need to, with their commercial-free broadcasts?

Another scene I really miss with this cut: The ship stuck in desert sand at the beginning.

There are three cuts of Close Encounters, and the scene you mention is in both the special edition and the director's cut. It could be that Starz is showing the original theatrical cut, which does not contain this scene.
