Now that I have finally watched this film I must read the book.I wonder if it delves a bit into the why Alice is the way she is.Hiding/taking favorite toys is not unusual in the midst of sibling rivalry. When they were in the warehouse and Alice shuts the door for half a minute to terrorize her seemingly favored by everyone little sister is not unusual. In my opinion Karen was the real brat. All the adults around perpetuated the situation with gifts (I mean the priest dead mothers cross! It clearly made a lot of people jealous).Alice ran off to try her sisters veil on bc let's face it, Karen wasn't going to share and Catherine wasn't going to instill that. We saw that with her reaction.Clearly Alice felt out numbered and invalidated. Unable to report sexual abuse by the landlord or the starting of her period to her own mother clearly has to point to some Freudian excuse;as well as, the Catholicism undertones. This movie concept is indeed multi-layered. I am reminded that everyone of us shape the life of the person next to us.

No, I sure didn't. Alice was a sociopath and a psycho. She wasn't born that way of course, but no I felt no sympathy for her

I did for the most part. Her sister was a shizzle-stirrer, her aunt accused her of maiming her, the landlord tried to molest her and she was mistreated on the ward. I thought her almost killing the kitten was a bit much.

No I felt that she was a horrible little beep and that people knew she was off, so that's why they preferred Karen. And actualky Karen wasn't really any better, being a Saccharine sweet little girl in front of adults but a horrible instigating little brat to her sister. The kids were awful, probably due to mom getting divorced and feeling she had to coddle them because of it. So while Karen was just a beep Alice was truly disturbed and people could tell.

At the very very beginning, it was as though Alice was being blamed for a bunch of "stuff"so I was wondering why. But as time passed and her real personality came out (eg: she was this mean little kid when she was around other children , but a
sweet little angel
around adults) then my thoughts changed.
Although
, when they stuck her in that mental ward, I felt they mistreated her so I did feel sorry for her again. Back & Forth.
