Their looking similar is intentional as it becomes a plot point. The sister is attacked when the killer was always after the mother.

I was confused by that as well. Also, the mother and aunt looked too much alike. I realize they're supposed to be sisters but I couldn't tell who was who. It's one of my pet peeves when movies cast characters who look about the same. Other than that, this was a pretty good movie. The atmosphere of it feels perfect for this time of year.
