This movie has always been kind of a guilty pleasure for me. Saw it as a kid and it did scare me, all the scenes of the snowbeast coming for lone skiers from its point of view. Plus, when it took out the camper van it seemed more intelligent than just an animal, which freaked my young mind out.
Looking back of course, you see how limited and generally terrible it is, but I do still enjoy it as a fun movie.
One thing puzzles me though. They make the point quite emphatically that the snowbeast is not a Bigfoot. I don't remember the dialogue but they say something along the lines of Bigfoot sightings tend to indicate that it's very timid, doesn't seek conflict, and certainly isn't out there ripping people to pieces on a regular basis. One guy says something about it being more like "something from the last ice age, maybe."
But they never really expand on this. After that conversation the subject is just dropped and never mentioned again.
So it always makes me wonder what the writers might have had in mind. What exactly
was
the creature supposed to be?
Of course given the movie we're talking about it's entirely likely that the writers didn't have anything in mind. But it's fun to speculate.
So maybe the snowbeast was a relative of Bigfoot? Something bigger, more aggressive - kind of like how grizzly bears are compared to black bears? Problem with that is, Bigfoot itself is unlikely enough, but now we'd have to believe in yet another undiscovered species. And of course, the same question is raised - if this aggressive species is out there, why isn't there a constant stream of ski people deaths?
So maybe these things are aggressive, but they don't prey on humans normally. And the snowbeast was some kind of rogue, one the was injured or just plain crazy. Kind of like how Tigers generally avoid people but can turn maneater.
Probably more thought than this movie deserves, but what the hell. Any thoughts?

They may have been misinformed.
All or some sasquatch could be voracious in winter with little food around.
